The bachi is a Japanese pick or plectrum which is used to play the shamisen which is a three stringed instrument with a construction similar to a banjo having a skin stretched both back and front over a hollow body.
The size, shape and material of which a bachi is made depends on the type of music to be played as well as the skill of the musician; softer more flexible materials being easier to play with than harder materials which also produce a stronger sound.
