18th Century South Indian Brass Parrot
There are clearly the remains of tinning on this cast brass sculpture which would, when new, have made him shine like silver.

18th / 19th Century
Height 12.8 cm width 18 cm depth 6 cm ( 5.25 x 7.25 x 2.5 in )
This cast brass bird is quite naturalistically modelled with vigorous incised detailing with, on its back a round blanket or saddle with cross-hatched decoration. Its chest and underside of the tail have drilled openings and it stands on a rectangular base with a circular hole for attachment.
The chest and tail holes may indicate its function as an oil container, although they may be a later alteration because the oil outlet on similar objects is usually cast as a projection with the body.
