This superb sculptural Kabuto is in the form of a dragon fish and was made by Fukutaka Ichiro, the most talented gendai (modern) smith of his generation. His particular skill was embossing and he never signed his work.
In Japanese folklore the dragon shachihoko is a mythical fish with the head of a tiger, dragon scales and the arched tail of a carp which is believed to cause rain and can protect against fire.
