This sculpture shows Buddha in his earthly life at the moment when he succeeds in vanquishing the demon Mara and summons the Earth to witness his victory (the fingers of his right hand touch the ground) this was his last obstacle to attaining enlightenment and revealing to the world the Four Noble truths, the quintessence of Buddhist teaching.
Seated in vajrasana with his right hand in bhumisparshamudra, the left resting on his lap in dhyanamudra wearing samghati leaving his right shoulder bare, his face displaying a serene expression with downcast eyes below arched eyebrows running into the nose-bridge, faint smiling lips, elongated earlobes and his curled hair rising into the ushnisha and topped with a lotus bud.
